Fr Griffins Éire Óg        3 – 12   Cárna Caiseal/Na Piarsaigh                2 -5

Fr Griffins Éire Óg had a comfortable victory in their first outing in this year’s Minor League on Sunday morning at Crestwood against a good Cárna Caiseal Na Piarsaigh side. The platform for this victory was set up with a workmanlike performance in the first half with the home side making very good use of the strong wind.

Cárna Caiseal Na Piarsaigh however had the first score with a well worked point within two minutes. James Casserly responded with his first point before Sean O Fatharta finished a well worked move to the net to give Fr Griffins Éire Óg a lead they would not relinquish. Further points were added by James Casserley, Alan Campbell, Sean o Fatharta, Arron Mc Ginty, and Colm Minton before James Casserley rifled a powerful shot to the Cárna Caiseal Na Piarsaigh net to give Fr Griffins Éire Óg a solid halftime lead. The half time score was 2 -9 to 0 -2 in favour of the home side.

Playing with the assistance of the wind in the Cárna Caiseal Na Piarsaigh offered a much more stern resistance in the second half. Strong performances from goal keeper Colm O Catháin, defenders Sean O Gaora, Seamus ÓDomhnaill, Padraic Mac Donnacha at midfield and PJ O Ceannabháin in the forwards helped keep this game competitive to the end.

Playing against the wind Fr Griffins Éire Óg played with determination and crucial scores from Colm Leen, Sean Morrissey and John Elwood ensured a well deserved victory.

Best for Fr Griffins Éire Óg were Darren Moylan, Iarla Burke, Darragh Leader and Dean Bruen in defence. Alan Campbell and James Casserley were always in control at midfield and launched most of the attacks. Sean Morrissey, Arron Mc Ginty, Sean O Fatharta and Colm Leen were always dangerous in attack.

Fr Griffins Éire Óg will have more difficult challenges in the games ahead but will be happy that they got off to a winning start.
