In the Fall of 1947 when returning from an Inter County Senior Football Match a conversation between Johnny Cotter, a formaer Chairman of the Galway County Football Board and Jimmy Ward an employee of M/S McNamara sparked of the movement which led to the founding of the Father Griffin Football Club. A meeting was called of people that might be interested in the formation of a club. From this meeting emerged Cumann Peile an Athar Ó Griobhta. Johnny Cotter was elected President, John Davey the Chairman and Stephen Lally Vice Chairman, Sean Kildillan was the first Secretary and Jimmy Ward became cialis online samples the clubs Treasurer and also the Teams Senior Captain.

Fr Griffins came into existance in the Spring of 1948 just in time to affiliate for that years championship. in 1957 Fr Griffins founfed Minor & Juvenille teams in both football and hurling. Between 1959 - 1964 the juvenilles and Minors between them captured a total of five County Championship titles. These boys came from the Woodquay, Bohermore & College Road areas of the City. Later they formed the nucleus of the side that brought premierhonours to the City of the Tribes in 1967 after a lapse of seventeen years. In the 1970 campaign the City lads again reached the final after disposing of old rivals Dunmore Mac Hales. They met Corofin in the Final & came out winners in a very close finish. Two years later Fr Griffins again reached the Final & won the clubs sixth Senior title at the expense of Tuam Stars. Their last success in the Senior Grade was achieved at the expense of Caltra in 1975.


In addition to their Senior County titles Fr Griffins also captured two Senior Connaught Championships. The first was won at the expense of CAstlebar Mitchells & this final took place in Pearse Stadium on February 28th 1971. Their second Provincial Title was achieved again at the expense of the Mayo champions this time Ballaghadereen. It was played on the 11th February 1973.

Scór Success

Scor the entertainment side of the GAA was rated highly in the Fr Griffin Club activities with the greatest success being achieved by the Scor na nóg figure dance team. Having wond the West County & provincial titles on successive years their greatest honours came in 1980 and 1981 when annexing All-Ireland honours in Leisureland, Galway & Limerick respectively. District County & Provincial titles were also won by the clubs Senior Dancing teams while a similar number of titles were won by our Question Time Contestants.
